ELC runs several rivers including: sections of the Class I-II Androscoggin River in NH, the Class II-III Magalloway River in ME, the Class III-IV Rapid River in ME and. the Class II-IV Kennebec River in ME.
The Androscoggin River
is an enjoyable Class II-river adventure, this is the perfect trip for families with young children, or anyone looking for a great paddling experience. Participants on this one day whitewater adventure will have the opportunity to guide their own raft, or for a more intimate white water experience, navigate the river in an inflatable kayak. This Class II section is loaded with great places to swim or float down the river, making the trip that much more enjoyable! There are excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing as well. This trip includes multiple runs and a riverside lunch.
If you are looking for a more intense experience try the Magalloway River.
This is a near constant Class III rafting trip located in Western Maine on the border of New Hampshire. From the Aziscohos Lake dam the first half mile of this river is a torrent of whitewater considered by many to be un-navigable. Our rafting trip begins below this in a Class III section of this picturesque and scenic river. Your group decides the intensity. With your guides help, you have the ability to choose mild or wild lines on this full day whitewater rafting experience. Along the way you will encounter such rapids as Churning Butter, Coast to Coast, and Cabin Rapid. This trip includes three runs on the whitewater section, lakeside lunch, shuttle from Errol, NH, and an opportunity to run ClassII-III rapids. This is an excellent trip for youth groups looking to experience the thrill of white water rafting, and families looking for a little adventure!
The Rapid River is a one of a kind wilderness rafting experience down the steepest river in Maine! ELC Rafting is the only company starting this trip from the historic Middle Dam, allowing ELC to access the upper portion of this classic New England river. Start the morning off with a half mile of class III rapids that empty into Pond in the River. At Lower Dam, navigate a series of Class II rapids before descending the Three Pitches to Smooth Ledge. Finish the trip with the long Class IV rapid S-turn and the notorious Devil’s Hopyard, where there is a surprise around every corner . This trip includes a riverside lunch and snacks, pontoon boat ride across Lake Umbagog, and transportation from Errol, NH. Age limit for this trip is 12 and over.
The Kennebec River in The Forks, Maine is a classic New England raft trip that will allow paddlers to enjoy the wild scenery of several miles of Class III-IV rapids. On this trip you will start at Harris Dam put in and run through such rapids as Whitewasher, The Alleway, Big Momma and the Three Sisters, Magic falls and more. A lunch is provided and this full day trip is a great experience for any group looking to explore New England whitewater. Rest assured that the staff at ELC Rafting and their partners in the Forks will customize any trip to meet your group's needs. We will arrange all group camping and accomodations, In the past groups have done team building initiatives, canoed and kayaked on a beautiful and remote lake, additional opprotunities for outdoor recreation are seemingly endless. This trip includes one run on the Kennebec river, Lunch and Shuttle from the Forks, ME.
Whitewater Class Definitions:
Class 1: Very small rough areas, requires no maneuvering.
Class 2: Some rough water, maybe some rocks, might require maneuvering.
Class 3: Whitewater, small waves, maybe a small drop, but no considerable danger. May require significant maneuvering.
Class 4: Whitewater, medium waves, maybe rocks, maybe a considerable drop, sharp maneuvers may be needed.
Class 5: Whitewater, large waves, possibility of large rocks and hazards, possibility of a large drop, requires precise maneuvering
